Mudagad
Mudagad
From ancient times many routes were used to reach the ‘Ghat’ from ‘Konkan’. The goods unloaded at the ‘Konkan’ port were transported to the market on the ‘Ghats’. Various forts were built in different dynasties to protect these ‘Ghats’. Mudagad fort was built to protect the “Kajirda Ghat” connecting Kolhapur and Ratnagiri districts. The ghat descends from Padsali village in Kolhapur district to Kajirda village near Rajapur in Konkan. Many of the earlier ‘Ghats’ have been converted into roads in the course of time (e.g. Fonda Ghat, Amboli Ghat, Pasarni Ghat etc) but Kajirda ‘Ghat’ is still in its original state. Although there are not many historical remains at this fort, the trail one has to take to reach there passes through dense forest which is really beautiful
